Our status

The bigger picture

CWDC is sponsored by the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF). Most of our funding comes from DCSF, but we also get smaller pots from the Department of Health and other places.

We are an executive non-departmental public body (NDPB).

ECM

We were set up in 2005 to support the implementation of Every Child Matters (ECM). This legislation was introduced after the death of Victoria Climbié.

Every Child Matters makes sure that organisations and agencies work together so that children and young people are healthy and safe, enjoy life and are able to achieve, make a positive contribution and have high aspirations for the future. By working together, we can make sure that no child or young person falls through the net.

Training and skills

The government has set up a network of organisations to improve standards of training and skills in all the workforces in the country. The network is called the Skills for Business Network and the organisations in it are called sector skills councils (SSCs).

We are one of six bodies that make up the SSC called Skills for Care and Development. Our job in Skills for Care and Development is to assess skills needs across the entire sector.

For more information about the Skills for Business Network, sector skills councils and Skills for Care and Development, you can visit www.ukskills.org.uk, www.sscalliance.org and www.skillsforcareanddevelopment.org.uk

Joined up working

We are a member of the Children’s Workforce Network and help to coordinate its activities. We work closely with our colleagues in the network to find answers to common issues and challenges across the whole of the children and young people’s workforce. To find out more about the Children’s Workforce Network, visit www.childrensworkforce.org.uk.

We work in strong partnership with a number of national organisations including the Association of Directors of Children's Services (ADCS), the National College for School Leadership and Children's Services (NCSL) and the Training and Development Agency for Schools (TDA).
