Championing children
A framework of skills, knowledge and behaviours for children's services leaders and managers.
Leadership and management
Championing Children is a framework that establishes a shared set of skills, knowledge and behaviours for those who are leading and managing integrated children's services.
The framework provides a common understanding about the particular abilities required by leaders and managers of integrated services. Individuals, teams and organisations can use this document as a planning tool to help develop the skills, knowledge and behaviours necessary.
We are responsible for implementing the framework within the children's workforce and for developing resources to help managers use it. For further support and guidance see the following downloads:
- Championing Children paper (second edition)
- Report on the findings of field-testing and national evaluation of the Championing Children Framework - March 2007
Emerging practice examples for championing children
The following resources have been produced by different local authority areas and regional groups. You may find the resources useful, however please note they are not endorsed by CWDC as being best practice.
Essex - Leading for children matrix
The Leading for children in Essex matrix is the copyright of Essex County Council. The matrix is two documents. The first gives the explanatory text and the second is the matrix itself. It is important that both are used together.
Essex County Council has sent a complementary copy to all Local Authorities. If further hard copies of the publication are needed then please contact Graham Handscomb. A small charge is made for multiple copies of this publication to cover production costs.
Warrington - Connexions partners
Warrington's Connexions partners have completed a piece of work on the Championing Children framework which splits it into a competency framework.
South East Leadership and Management Project
A number of children's trust and local authorities in the south east have been working with two higher education Institutions to develop accredited modules based on two of the sections of championing children. The project is due to complete at the end of 2008. For further information please email us.
