Leadership and management

Strong leadership is a significant factor in services working together successfully.

Having strong, skilled leaders and managers has been identified as being a significant factor in delivering successful integrated working. This in turn is leading to improved outcomes for children, young people and families.

Local areas are moving towards children's trust arrangements. Evidence suggests that we are seeing the emphasis switching away from single sector leadership and management, Instead, it is moving towards managing and leading sometimes complex multi-agency or multi-disciplinary settings.

In making this switch, we are  seeing the development of "common" skills sets, and also that focusing purely on senior managers is no longer enough. To drive the agenda forward we need leaders, and aspiring leaders at all levels.

The Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) transferred responsibility for embedding the Championing Children Framework to CWDC in October 2006. Since then, the pace of change has increased significantly. This has resulted in CWDC emerging as the natural lead for taking on the professional development of leadership and management for Middle Managers.

In this section we look at some of the different areas of leadership and management we are focusing on for 2009-10. You will find more information by clicking on the links on the left.
