The government has announced that from January 2010 it will be mandatory for the schools workforce to undertake safer recruitment training.

This training will be provided by the Children's Workforce Development Council (CWDC) through an e-learning tool and comprehensive Safer Recruitment guidance.

The new legislation, which is part of the School Staffing (England) Regulations 2009, is in response to a key recommendation from the Bichard Inquiry following the Soham murders.

Further information about the legislation for the schools workforce is available by emailing the DCSF at info@dcsf.gsi.gov.uk

Further information is also available from Safer Recruitment training FAQs.

The safer recruitment training for the schools workforce, which was previously provided by the National College (formerly NCSL), will be available from November 1.

From mid November CWDC will launch Safer Recruitment guidance for people working in the children and young people's workforce.  Further details about the training and guidance, which is not mandatory, will be announced on this date.
