Why involve children and young people?

CWDC has adopted the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) in its entirety. Article 12 of the UNCRC says that all children and young people have the right to say what they think should happen when adults are making decisions that affect them, and to have those opinions taken into account.

The decisions and plans made about the development and reform of the children and young people's workforce nationally, regionally and locally impact on the lives of children and young people. Therefore we believe children and young people should be involved in the development and reform of the children and young people's workforce.

Participation within CWDC

Our mission includes making sure the child is at the centre of all services.

Participation in workforce development

Involving children and young people in decisions about the services they receive is now common practice within many organisations. However children and young people are less often involved in decisions about the people who provide these services.

CWDC's participation fund provides funding to develop practice and resources around involving young people in workforce development including recruitment and selection, induction and training, and assessment and appraisal.
