National Occupational Standards

What are National Occupational Standards (NOS)?

National Occupational Standards have been developed to assist employers, businesses, employees and individuals. They identify the skills, knowledge and understanding required in different sectors.

National Occupational Standards are not training courses or programmes of study, however they do provide a foundation for training and form the basis of:

  • National Vocational Qualifications (NVQs);
  • Scottish Vocational Qualifications (SVQs); and
  • Vocationally Related Qualifications (VRQs)
