Common Core of Skills and Knowledge
The Common Core of Skills and Knowledge for the Children's Workforce sets out the basic skills and knowledge needed by people (including volunteers) whose work brings them into regular contact with children, young people and families. By using a common language, it will enable professionals to work together more effectively in the interests of the child and underpins successful integrated working.

Improving understanding of the Common Core
CWDC is currently looking at ways to improve understanding of the common core across different areas of the children and young people's workforce. As part of this work, CWDC ran a number of projects with children and young people from across England who, with their workers, looked at ways to visually and linguistically communicate the benefits and impact of the common core in improving outcomes for children and young people. View the end results of this project including the final project report on the 'Same people, different skills' page.
Plans for 2008-09
Although all Sector Skills Council (and TDA) are signed up to embedding the Common Core across their footprints, CWDC were asked in the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) 2007 - 08 remit letter to "ensure the continued embedding of the common core across the children's workforce". The Children's Workforce Action Plan (2008) will provide a new opportunity to re-launch the Common Core and further exciting work is planned to make this happen.
