Safeguarding children & young people

We believe that keeping children and young people safe is everybody's business.

We are committed to "keeping children safe"

There are five outcomes on the Every Child Matters agenda - one of these is that every child stays safe.

We want England to be the best place in the world for children and young people to grow up in. Keeping children safe is a priority for us to achieve this.

What is safeguarding?

The government has defined the term ‘safeguarding children' as:

The process of protecting children from abuse or neglect, preventing impairment of their health and development, and ensuring they are growing up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care that enables children to have optimum life chances and enter adulthood successfully."
