Welcome to social care

Find out more about children's social care and how we're working to help our workforce do the best job it possibly can.

Social care is all about helping children and young people to live their lives to the full, by working with them, their families and carers towards independence and keeping them safe and protected from harm.

This might mean offering practical or emotional support to overcome difficult situations or finding somewhere else for a child or young person to live if necessary

Social care workers are employed in a wide range of occupational areas. Social care workers support the social work role; they also provide a direct caring role to children and young people and in some cases specific family support services. Social care includes family support workers, residential child care workers and foster carers.

Our vision is to create a first class children’s social care workforce, qualified to a minimum level 3 relevant qualification with clear progression pathways up to graduate leadership.
