Supporting employers to lead change for social work with children and families
Our social work programme is a comprehensive programme of activity that drives and supports improvements in the way social workers are recruited, trained and supported. It supports employers to tackle the significant challenges that children and families social workers face.
In April 2012 the programme will move to The Department for Education (DfE).
Encouraging talented and committed people to join and make a career in the profession
Our projects provide new entry routes for those who might not have considered social work as a career as well as supporting qualified practitioners to bring their wealth of expertise and knowledge back to the sector.
Helping employers to support social workers throughout their careers
Our support aims to increase confidence and maximise capability of social workers in the early stages of their careers. We also provide training and support for front line managers to develop leadership, management and supervisory skills.
Supporting employers to reduce pressure on front line social workers
Our £43.9million Social Work Improvement Fund supports local authorities to build capacity for reform and improvement and build on the steps they are taking to recruit and retain social workers. We are also supporting local authorities with the implementation of recommendations from the Munro Review.
