Graduate recruitment scheme

The graduate recruitment scheme for social work

The Graduate Social Worker Scheme (GRS) allowed high calibre candidates without a background in social care to complete a Masters in Social Work over two years whilst receiving a bursary. Local authorities recruited the candidates, offering them support and placements. CWDC provided funding to Local Authorities of £15k per candidate per year. A minimum of 85% of this was passed on to the graduates.

The scheme began in September 2008, involving 28 Local Authorities and 112 candidates. A second intake in September 2009 involved 56 local authorities and 230 candidates.

There will not be a further intake to the Graduate Recruitment Scheme. The second and final cohort of over 200 candidates will complete their studies by January 2012.
