Graduate recruitment scheme

The graduate recruitment scheme for social work

The Graduate Social Worker Scheme allows high calibre candidates without a background in social care to complete a Masters in Social Work over two years whilst receiving a bursary. Candidates must hold a minimum 2:1 degree (in any discipline). Local authorities recruit the candidates, offering them support and placements. CWDC provide funding to local authorities of £15,000 per candidate per year. A minimum of 85% of this is passed on to the graduates.

The scheme began in September 2008, involving 28 local authorities and over 100 candidates.  A second intake in September 2009 involved 56 local authorities and over 200 candidates.

The pilot scheme is currently being evaluated to assess its impact on recruitment and retention of high calibre, highly committed individuals to the profession. The evaluation will consider whether the pilot scheme promotes better outcomes for children, young people and families and its potential sustainability.

No decision has yet been made on whether funding will be available for this pilot scheme to be extended to a third intake of candidates in September 2010.

If you wish to register your interest in the graduate recruitment scheme for any possible September 2010 intake, please email graduate@cwdcouncil.org.uk
