Step Up to Social Work - A Practice-led Programme for Professionals

A new, employment-based pathway into social work will be delivered nationally from September 2010. This will  provide a more flexible route for high achieving graduates to qualify as a social worker while completing a Master's degree.

This programme is being piloted by eight regional partnerships across England. These are:

  • Greater Merseyside
  • Greater Manchester
  • Yorkshire and Humberside
  • West Midlands
  • East Midlands
  • Central East
  • East
  • London

CWDC will recruit 200 graduates through local authorities. These graduates must have a 2.1 degree as a minimum and experience that includes working with children, young people and families.

 Successful applicants will receive:

  • entry on to the Step Up to Social Work programme
  • employer-based training leading to a Master's Degree in Social Work
  • payment to support your learning
  • a bespoke training course, taking into account your previous experience and qualifications
  • professional support, upon appointment, through the Newly Qualified Social Worker and Early Professional Development programmes.

Thank you for your interest in the Step Up to Social Work Programme. Applications for our 2010 placements will close on the 31st March 2010, applications submitted after this date will not be accepted. We shall, in the light of our analysis of applications, review whether a further recruitment round for autumn 2010 is needed. If this were to go ahead and you would like to register your interest, please email your details to: stepuptosocialwork@cwdcouncil.org.uk or write to us at: Step Up to Social Work, CWDC, 2nd Floor, City Exchange, 11 Albion Street, Leeds LS1 5ES.
